TM 27 SE
9/65 Clematis House
House. In 2 phases: mid C16 hall and service end; parlour cell to left of
stack added c.1600 to form a 3-cell, lobby entrance house. Timber framed and
plastered with a pantiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. Casement windows,
gabled porch and entrance door, all of mid C20 date. Set forward to right is
a single storey former shop addition, probably early C20. Left gable has a 2-
light attic window with some early diamond-leaded glass. Hall fireplace has a
lintol with remains of embattled carving. Chamfered joists to hall and
parlour. Intact first floor studding with blocked diamond-mullioned window;
reversed bracing at service end. In the hall chamber, an arch-braced cambered
tie beam. Plain crown-post roof over earlier part, the crown post with
bracing to the collar purlin only. Roof over parlour now mainly of mid C20
date but originally of side purlin construction. Newel stairs.
