Description

STRADBROKE WILBY ROAD
TM 27 SW 3/131
Bumble Cottage

II

Former farmhouse. C16, in 2 main phases; possibly earlier origins. A further C16-C17 wing to rear, probably once longer, and a small C19 addition to the left. Timber framed and plastered, thatched roof. 2 storeys. 3-cell form. 5 windows, small mid C20 casements without glazing bars. Boarded entrance door. Internal stack with small shaft. Exposed framing internally, largely intact on first floor. Evidence for diamond-mullioned windows and original cross-entry doorways. Heavy plain joists in parlour. Hall chamber has open truss with cambered tie beam. Queen-post roof over parlour cell, this end probably slightly later.
