WILBY
RUSSEL'S GREEN

Benedict Cottage

GV
II

House. Probably C14, with C16-C17 alteration and additions. Timber framed,
mainly plastered, with a thatched roof. 1½ storeys. 3 windows, C19
casements. Half-glazed entrance door placed centrally. 2 eyebrow dormers.
Small gable stacks, that to the left external. The frame is in 4 bays. 2-bay
former open hall to right, the open truss removed; there is evidence for an
extra tie beam each side of the open truss, a feature which suggests a C14
date. Inserted floor has chamfered joists with run-out stops. The left hand
bay is probably a later addition.
