House, formerly a coaching inn. c.1730 with C17 service wing. Timber frame,
plastered. Steeply pitched glazed pantiled roofs. A large L on plan. 2
storeys and attics. 5 window front: high brick plinth, central entrance with
a 6 raised panelled door, architrave with floating pediment. Moulded flush
frame 4:4 pane early C19 sashes with shutters. Boxed eaves. Three 2-light
dormers with shallow pedimented leaded heads. Extruded end stacks with
offsets, raised in C19 white brick with red brick quoining. C19 conservatory
on right gable end. Right return to 4 bay service wing; 4 and 6-light
ovolo moulded mullion and transom part opening casements, 2 entrances, a 2
panelled door to left and a boarded door in a C19 trellised porch to right, a
gabled dormer and on axial ridge stack as on front range. Rear gable end has
C18 or C19 red brick facing with an internal end stack. To rear of main range
a 1 storey C19 slate roofed outshut, in inner angle a 1 storey outshut raised
to 2 storeys in C20. To rear of service wing an early 6-light chamfered
mullioned window and a C19 cross casement. Interior: early C18 open well
staircase with turned balusters, open string with cheek pieces, moulded and
ramped handrail. Simple C18 cornices and panelled doors. Service wing has
some exposed studding and straight tension braces, stop chamfered axial
binding beams. Butt purlin roofs with collars to principal rafters.
