29.7.55 Stuston Lodge (formerly
listed as The Lodge)
House. Early C19. White brick. Shallow hipped slate roof. 3 bays. 2
storeys. Step up to central entrance: 6 panelled door, upper 4 panels glazed,
traceried rectangular fanlight, fielded panelled reveals, timber Doric
doorcase with 3/4 columns. 16 pane sashes, taller on ground floor, recessed
with stone sills, gauged brick flat arched heads. Boxed eaves. Right return
has a full height timber canted bay window with ground floor French windows.
First floor glazing bars, panelled bases on both floors. 2 stacks to rear,
that to right truncated. C20 rendered 1 storey and attic lean-to addition to
rear with low outbuilding extending to left with a hipped roof. Interior:
fielded panelled doors, late C19 staircase. An early timber framed range to
rear was destroyed in a fire in 1974.
