2/112 Hawthorn Farm House

House. c1600, extended and raised late C17 or early C18, altered C19 and C20.
Timber frame, extended in clay lump, all cement rendered. Steeply pitched
pantiled roof. Originally 2 cells with a cross passage, probably always 2
storeys, stack and parlour bays added to right to form a 3 cell lobby entry
plan. Entrance to right of centre in a C19 red brick gabled porch, corner
piers with oversailing finials. Cross passage entrance to left of centre
blocked. 2-light 6 and 8 pane part opening flush metal frame casements.
Rebuilt ridge stack to right between hall and parlour. Roof raised over early
bays to a uniform height. Right gable end exposed plates and purlins. Left
gable end C20 lean-to, attic casement. To rear plastered and weatherboarded
lean-to additions. Interior: cross passage survives with stop chamfered jambs
and 3 boarded doors to service bay and stairs, 5-light diamond mullioned
openings over service bay, stop chamfered cross axial binding beam in hall,
stop chamfered joists in parlour, close studding with curved braces in
walling, clasped purlin roof.
