Large house. Largely c1840 with c1700 core on earlier foundations. Timber
frame to core, extended in brick, all stuccoed. Slate roofs. Appears on plan
as 2 parallel ranges, earlier core was 3 bays with end stacks, large T shaped
addition to right and set back. 2 storey core raised with attic to same
height as 2 storeys of later build. Earlier range has a reset C15 stone door
surround, probably from a monastic site, heavily moulded pointed arch with
shafted jambs, blank shields and daggers in spandrels, square head with
hoodmould, a studded door, rectangular fanlight above. Flanking doorway are
tripartite sashes in shallow reveals, 2 first floor 16 pane sashes, attic has
three 2-light small pane casements. To right a break in plinth and change in
floor levels to later build, 2 bays with 12 and 16 pane sashes to left. Bay
to right has applied giant Tuscan order, steps up to a recessed 4 panelled
door, traceried rectangular fanlight, panelled soffit and reveals, half
pilastered architrave, modillion blocked pediment, first floor recessed margin
glazed 2-light casement. Boxed eaves. Hipped roof to whole range with a
rebuilt ridge stack to left and a rendered stack on front pitch at original
right end. 2 bay left return with 2-light casements. Right return has a
first floor 3-light window with round headed lights, angle pilasters stopped
with a band over a lean-to conservatory from rear block which extends further
to right. Symmetrical garden front, 1:2:1 breaking forward to centre.
Applied giant Tuscan order, paired plasters and a shallow pediment with a
blank shield to centre. Ground floor tall margin glazed casements, round
headed lights, consoles to floating cornices. First floor similar 3:2:2:3
light casements. To left of centre and at right end ridge stacks with bases
and cornices. Left gable end ground floor French windows with round headed
lights, floating cornice on consoles, two first floor 2-light casements with
round headed lights, paired giant pilasters, pedimental gable with a blank
shield. Attached to right end behind earlier range is a 1 storey outbuilding.
