TM 07 NE WORTHAM CHAPEL LANE (WEST SIDE)
House. Early C17, altered C20. Timber frame, plastered with painted sham
timber frame. Machine tiled and pantiled roof. 3 cell cross passage plan. 2
storeys and attic. Ground floor: entrance in a gabled porch in cross passage
position, glazed doors, to left a small 3-light glazing bar metal frame
casement, to right 3-light transomed timber glazing bar casements with hood
boards. First floor 3-light C20 metal frame casements. Sprocket eaves.
Axial ridge stack to right of centre between hall and parlour. Left end
extruded stack. Right end exposed plates and purlins. To rear catslide roofs
over clay lump lean-to outshut additions at ends, to centre a door and a 2-
light casement. Interior: close studding, stop chamfered cross axial binding
beams, parlour fireplace has an ovolo and cavetto moulded depressed brick
arch, run out chamfered joists and tension bracing in altered service end,
stairs behind stack. First floor: 3 and 5-light chamfered mullioned window
openings, fireplace in room over parlour has a chamfered depressed brick arch.
Double purlin roof with lower putt purlins, collars and halved principals
clasping upper purlins, cranked windbraces. Formerly known as Chapel Farm
