TM 07 NE WORTHAM LONG GREEN (SOUTH SIDE)

Facade to former village Reading Room. 1870. Red brick with ashlar dressings.
In a classical style. Three arched and pedimented bays. Taller central arch,
archivolt with keystone and impost capitals, similar but smaller flanking
arches over which are panels inscribed "FAITH' and 'HOPE". 4 Roman Doric
columns on high bases, entablature carries pediments, that to the centre
larger with a damaged panel formerly inscribed 'CHARITY'. At ends consoles to
coping. To rear chamfered relieving arches over outer arches, key blocked
ashlar to centre, two 2 stage buttresses (Pevsner 1974).
