Farmhouse, late C16 core with major extension and remodelling of 1832, as on
plaque over entrance, for Roger Pettiward of Gt. Finborough Hall (initials
R.P. in left hand gable on plaque). Red brick, with raised quoins and
dressings of gault brick. On either side of the entrance is a Flemish gable
with gault brick copings. The timber-framed range to rear right is encased in
C19 red brick. Plaintiled roofs. Several C19 chimneys: the stacks are of red
brick with gault brick dressings; shafts of richly moulded terracotta,
circular and in the Tudor style with heavy caps and bases. 2 storeys.
Windows at 1st storey with cambered heads and small-pane casements. A pair of
splayed bays with hipped slated roofs; the casements have curved and lobed
heads. A 2-storey entrance porch in the Jacobean manner; a circular plaque in
the gable is inscribed with the date 1832. A segmental arched doorway.
Internal doorway with 6-panelled door, the upper 4 panels glazed. A massive
C16 external chimney to right of the rear wing, in red brick with multiple
offsets. Some timber framing exposed internally; heavy chamfered principal
members, close-studding, and clasped-purlin roof. Apart from the rear wing,
the remainder of the building is entirely of c.1832. Great Finborough Hall is
listed under Finborough C.P.
