Two shops with dwelling above and behind. Built as one house in mid C16, in 2
stages. 2 cell plan. 2 storeys. Timber-framed, and encased at the front in
C19 red brick, now painted. Pantiled roofs: the left hand section was once
thatched, and the right hand roof was rebuilt to a lower pitch in C19. A
large axial chimney of plastered brick. Mainly mid/late C19 windows: cambered
heads and large-pane sashes. Two C20 half-glazed panelled doors in C19
openings. Very heavy mid-C16 framing exposed in both 2-bay cells; that to
left is possibly the earlier. Very closely-spaced studwork, large unchamfered
1st floor joists; the binding beam in the left-hand room has very broad bar-
stops. In the right hand room is a wide C16 lintelled open fireplace with
narrow buff bricks.
