7/194 Elm Farmhouse
Former farmhouse; mid C16, early C17 and early C19. Built in 2 sections.
Front section of early C19: plastered brick (the lower section and the side
walls are painted instead of plastered). Slated roof with gable chimneys of
gault brick. 2 storeys, 3 windows. Small-pane sashes with flush frames,
those at ground storey with boarded shutters. Entrance door with 2 tall
beaded panels; square fanlight and flat canopy on brackets. The C19 building
forms a double-pile plan with the earlier house behind; built in 2 stages, mid
C16 and early C17. 3-cell plan, the service cell to left is an addition of
C17. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and plastered. Thatched roof, hipped at right
hand end. An axial C16/C17 chimney of red brick. Various C19 and C20
casements. The C16 section has good framing:- close-studding, chamfered floor

purlin roof. A large cambered lintel to the parlour fireplace to right. The
C17 framing is complete but plain, and of slightly lesser quality.
