Description

DRINKSTONE THE STREET
TL 96 SE
1/27 Home Farmhouse
-
GV II
Former farmhouse. Late C17 with early C17 or earlier core, and early C19
alterations. Red brick, in part encasing timber-framing. A band at 1st
floor. Hipped plaintiled roof: an axial chimney of early C17 red brick with
panelled shafts. C19 external chimney to right. 2 storeys. 3 windows: a
number of C17 window openings were blocked in C18/C19 red brick. Late C17
heavy cross-casements with flat arches of gauged brick and leaded glazing:
this type of window is uncommon in rural Suffolk. C18 6-panelled entrance
door with broad architrave, and C19 plaintiled porch on posts. The left-hand
section, one window wide, is in C19 red brick, probably encasing timber-
framing. Interior not examined.
