Description

RATTLESDEN HIGH TOWN GREEN, HOLLY
TL 95 NE
BUSH LANE
3/97 Barn, 30m west of Malting
- Farmhouse
- II
Barn, late C16. 4 bays. Timber-framed and weatherboarded. Thatched roof. A
gabled C18 porch at north side, 2nd bay from west end. Quite complete C16
framing: heavy studding with prominent windbracing of both arch and tension
type. Tiebeams at open trusses, mainly without archbraces (one tiebeam also
renewed). Good clasped purlin roof, some bays windbraced. The walling is
partly underbuilt in C19/C20 brick and some areas of studwork are missing from
the western-most bay; nonetheless, quite a complete example of a C16 barn.
Malting Farmhouse is not a listed building.
