Former rectory. Early C16. Alterations of late C19 and c.1914. A 3-cell
open hall house of half-H plan form, with numerous additions to side and rear.
The 2-bay hall range of one storey and attics, the two-storey cross-wing each
of 3 bays. Timber-framed, encased at front and side in C19 gault brick.
Plaintiled roofs: three gabled casement dormers to hall range. C19 chimneys
of gault brick with diagonally-set square shafts and heavy caps. Mainly early
C20 casements with leaded lights, a C19 small-paned sash in the parlour. Pair
of half-glazed C19 entrance doors with gabled porch. Interior much remodelled
in C19. Both cross-wings have small areas of heavy close-studding exposed and
arch-braced cambered tiebeams at open trusses. The left hand cross-wing has a
complete crownpost roof: square post at open truss with thick 4-way braces.
The roof over the hall has been altered, but has no smoke blackening although
appearing to be original. This suggests a late-medieval date. Roof of right
hand wing not examined. An inserted first floor in the hall has C17 ovolo-
moulded main beams.
