Description

HORHAM THE STREET
TM 27 SW
5/50
Coach house 70m south of
The Old Rectory
GV II
Former tithe, barn, later a coach house and stables. Early C16 with C19
alteration. Timber framed, formerly plastered, now cement-rendered or
weatherboarded on 3 sides. C19 hipped slated roof. To north-east are 2
boarded doors and a pair of large boarded doors to the central cart entrance.
The frame is in 5 bays. The tie beams have very heavy arched braces, all
intact, each brace with a small horizontal tie to the main post. Full-height
studding; some tension braces halved against the outside of the studs. South
bay has been rebuilt, with straight primar.y braces. Studding in north bay
reconstructed mid C20. The 2 bays to the south are floored over. There is
evidence that the original roof was of the queen-post type.
Included for group value.
