Description

HOXNE LOW STREET (east side)
TM 17 NE
7/110 No.22 (Trees), No.23,
29.7.55 No.24
II
Originally one house, now sub-divided into 3 cottages. C16 or earlier.
Timber framed. No.22 and No.23 have C20 textured render and a roof of modern
plaintiles. No.24 has old panelled plasterwork and interlocking concrete
pantiles. 2 storeys and attics. A range of 6 windows, small-paned 2-light
casements of C19 and C20 date. 3 doorways, all approached by short flights of
steps. No.22 has an C18 2-panelled door, No.23 a C19 4-panelled door and
No.24 a 6-panelled raised and fielded door, probably of C18 date. 2 gabled
dormers. Heavy internal stack: the lower portion of the shaft has an inset
oblong panel with a sawtooth brick course; above this panel the shaft has been
rebuilt. A further stack to the right is set just behind the roof ridge.
Very fine hall ceiling, mostly within No.23, probably a later insertion into
an open hall. The main beams form a T on plan, both with multiple mouldings;
similarly-moulded cross-beam against stack; fully moulded joists. A middle
rail is set just below the level of this floor. The roof is later. Interiors
of No.22 and No.24 not examined.
