House. In 2 sections: the right section is the earlier and appears to be part
of a medieval house, now considerably altered; left hand section is C16,
extended to left and re-roofed in C19. Timber framed, mainly plastered except
for small sections to right gable end and rear which are weatherboarded.
Pantiled roof. 2 storeys to left; 1 1/2 storeys to right section which has lower
eaves and higher ridge. C19 small-paned casement windows except for one mid
C20 standard casement window to left. One gabled dormer. Left section has
gabled porch and boarded door. Internal stack at junction of the 2 ranges,
within the right section. Small gable stack to left. Much of the structure
is exposed inside, especially in the older half which is the more intact.
Left section has middle rail. No wall braces or early windows visible.
Ground floor ceiling to right has heavy plain joists set flat, the bridging
beam with remains of broach stop-chamfers. Evidence for cross-entry doorways
by gable end, suggesting the house once continued further to the right. Roof
over this part has clasped purlins. Upper room of left section has a stuccoed
fireplace with simply-moulded 3-centred arch.
