HOXNE WATERMILL LANE

Watermill. Dated 1846. White brick ground floor, timber framed and
weatherboarded above; the boarding is painted white on the west and south
sides, and tarred on the other 2. Slated roof. 3 storeys and loft.
Rectangular on plan, 3 x 3 bays. Sash windows with glazing bars, segmental
arched on ground floor, three-quarter height on 2nd floor. West side has
central boarded half-door under a 4-centred brick arch and a loading door at
first floor. South gable end has boarded door and 2 blind doorways, all under
4-centred arches; boarded first floor loading door. Also to the south, facing
the house, a gabled lucam with drop finials, supported on curved wooden
brackets. To rear a contemporary red brick steam mill, now reduced in height;
intact tall tapering square chimney with corbelled cap. The machinery,
including an iron undershot waterwheel, is intact. Datestone is on north west
corner and is inscribed 'PRIMUS LAPIS HUJUS MOLAE AQUATILIS POSTUS EST 29 DIE
AUGUS MDCCCXLVI LIEUT GENL SIR E KERRISON BART MP'.
