House, latterly 2 estate cottages. Medieval core with alterations of C16 and
later. To the right is a mid C19 addition and further work of c.1980. Timber
framed and plastered with a thatched roof. 1 1/2 storeys. 2-cell form. Small-
paned casement windows, 2 gabled dormers and 2 glazed doors, all mostly of mid
C20 date. Internal stack. Mid C19 one-bay addition of rendered brick with a
pantiled roof; 2 storeys. Original 3-light casement windows under segmental
arches; louvred shutters. Gable stack with 2 square shafts set diamondwise.
Interior has partly exposed full-height studding; 2 curved braces visible in
rear wall; right cell has wallposts with blocked mortices about 0.5m below the
present floor level. Left cell has C16 ceiling with axial bridging beam and
plain joists set flat. Unusually large C16 open fireplace with original
lintol. In the right cell is an C18 ceiling with on-edge joists and an open
fireplace, perhaps later C17. Common rafter roof. Both cottage stairs have
been retained.
