House. In 3 main phases: C17, mid-late C18 and mid C20. Timber framed and
plastered. Roofs mainly pantiled. Main C18 range has glazed black pantiles
to the front and plaintiles to the rear. 2 storeys with attics. To the front
a 4-bay mid-late C18 range: modillion eaves cornice; sash windows with glazing
bars in flush frames; 3 original shallow-gabled dormer windows with square-
leaded glass; gable stacks. To the right a C17 cross-wing with half-height
sash windows and Y-traceried gable windows with square-leaded panes. Mid C20
range to left hand return incorporates (in situ) an C18 doorway with eared
architrave, panelled reveals and door with 9 raised and fielded panels. Mid
C20 porch in Roman Ionic style. Various rear additions; one has a bell turret
on 4 square columns, with a pyramidal roof capped by a wind vane. C18 work
inside includes a well stair with carved tread-ends, 3 turned balusters per
tread and circular newels; ramped handrail of pine. Main first floor room has
quarter-round reeded corner columns with acanthus capitals, supporting an
enriched Vitruvian scroll frieze. Moulded cornices to dining room and
stairwell. Various archways and arched recesses of C18 and early C19. C17
range has some plain exposed studding and an ovolo floorbeam.
