-- II

House, mid/late C16 with major remodelling of c.1800. 3-cell cross-entry
plan. One storey and attics. Timber-framed and plastered. Pantiled roof,
once thatched; one C19 pantiled raking dormer. An axial chimney, the shaft
rebuilt in C19 red brick. C19 small-pane casements. Panelled C19 door at
cross-entry position, with cantilevered canopy. The 2-bay right hand cell has
complete and interesting framing of c.1550-1580. Reverse arch windbraced
studding. Roof possibly of queenpost type. Chamfered exposed floorjoists
with clear evidence for timber-framed chimney on the site of the present one.
The C17 brick chimney has lintelled back-to-back open fireplaces. The two
left-hand cells were rebuilt in plain primary-braced studding in late C18 or
early C19.
