2/110 Quarry House

House, C16 and c.1600. One storey and attics. Earlier range of 3 cells,
higher section at right angles of c.1600. Timber-framed and plastered: a
little exposed studding. Pantiled roof, formerly thatched. Two gabled
plaintiled casement dormers. An axial C16 or early C17 chimney of red brick,
the upper shaft rebuilt in C19. A C19 gable chimney of red brick to right.
Small-pane casements, mainly replicated in the C19 manner in late C20.
Boarded C19 entrance door at cross-entry, with C17 diamond mullioned window
above. The higher range has an ovolo-moulded bridging beam and unchamfered
1st floor joists laid flat. A lintelled C16/C17 open fireplace and another,
smaller, in a chamber. A staircase wing added C17 to rear has a diamond
mullioned window. The lower range has a number of reused smoke-encrusted
medieval rafters.
