Bridge, carrying the Ipswich to Bury St Edmunds railway line over Station
Road. 1846 by Frederick Barnes of Ipswich for the Ipswich, Bury and Norwich
Railway. Red and gault brick: much later patching in engineering brick of
both red and blue. An elliptical arch with vaulting in skewed (diagonally-
set) brickwork. Rusticated block quoins of gault brick rises from road level
at all 4 corners to a height of about 2 metres, supporting a heavy dentilled
cornice. From this rises the elliptical brick arch with vaulting in skewed
brickwork. At the centre of both faces of the arch is a limestone key-block
with sunk panel. Plain parapet, rising from deep cornice with modillions of
brick below. The embankment is retained by curved and slightly battered
retaining walls with stone copings.
