THORNDON HIGH STREET
TM 16 NW
House. C16-early C17, in 2 phases, the parlour end (to right) a later
addition. Timber framed and plastered, thatched roof. 2 storeys. 3-cell
form. 4 windows, mid C20 casements with small panes. C20 boarded and
battened door in position of cross-entry. Internal stack with square red
brick shaft of mid C20 date. Lean-to addition on left gable end. Modernised
interior. Intact studding in hall and parlour chambers with original window
openings. Plain joists in hall. In the parlour, an axial bridging beam with
ogee stop-chamfers, the joists concealed. Stack may be contemporary with
parlour end, perhaps early C17.
