3/99 The Shieling
- II

House. Later C16. Mid C20 in-line addition to left. Timber framed, smooth
render, thatched roof. Mid C20 work is pantiled. 1½ storeys. Small 3-cell
form. 2 windows, mid C20 single-paned standard casements. To the right is a
mid C20 gabled porch with boarded door. 2 eyebrow dormers. Internal stack
with small red brick shaft. First floor structure has substantial plain
joists. Some exposed studding in left cell. Back-to-back open fireplaces.
One tie beam is set high and supported on secondary upper crucks. Intact roof
with rafters of irregular scantling.
