WORLINGWORTH
FINGAL STREET
Pond Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Early C17; brick casing has datestone 'SP 1873' on left gable end.
Timber framed, the facade encased and the left gable end rebuilt in white
brick; right gable end brick-cased and rendered; plastered at rear. Pantiled
roof. 2 storeys and attic. 3-cell, lobby entry type. 3 windows, mid C20
standard casements; replacement lintols of timber. Gabled porch of 1873 with
mid C20 door. Internal stack, the lower half of the shaft original. C19
stack on outside of right gable end. Much of the frame is intact: reverse-
curved braces; evidence for diamond-mullioned windows on both floors and in
one gable. Axial bridging beams to all 3 ground floor rooms; chamfered joists
in the hall, otherwise plain joists. No evidence of original first floor
partitioning above hall and service end. Roof has clasped and stepped butt
purlins with cranked wind braces. One collar is supported by a central post
from the tie beam and there is evidence for one to another collar, now
removed: this strengthening work is of C17 date. Newel stairs, the lower
flight rebuilt in C19.
