Description

BEDFIELD DOG LANE
TM 26 NW

2/20 Stables 10m. north north-
- west of Low Farmhouse

GV II

Farm building, perhaps stables and store, now all stables. Late C16 with C18-
C19 one-bay addition to north. Timber framed and cement-rendered, the south
gable weatherboarded. Roof of corrugated asbestos sheeting. One original
first floor diamond-mullioned window at south end. Evidence for another
original window in adjacent bay visible inside. Various other windows and
doors. Interior. C16 section is in 4 bays, partitioned equally into 2. The
2 southernmost bays have original upper floors, reached by an old solid-tread
stair from a door in the gable end. The floors in the other 2 bays are
probably later insertions, the main floorbeam supported on knees. The
studding, visible only at the upper level, is mostly original except in the
side walls of the north half. No evidence for cart entry or original windows
in north half. Intact roof has a single row of wind-braced clasped purlins.
