DEBENHAM ASPALL ROAD

House. C16 or earlier. Timber framed and plastered with remains of lining to
imitate ashlar. Left gable end has widely-spaced exposed studs. Pantiled
roof. 2 storeys and attic. 2 3-light first floor casement windows with
horizontal glazing bars. Ground floor has 2 4-paned sash windows adjacent to
which are contemporary 6-panel doors. To extreme right a projecting former
shop window: 10-paned front with cornice, above which is a display board with
ramped top. Internal stack set just forward of roof ridge. Interior not
examined. This house was one of two which survived a serious fire in this
part of the village in 1744.
