House and shop. C16-mid C17, in several phases. A main range parallel with
the street, with cross-wing to right and 2 further projecting gabled
additions. Timber framed, textured render; side wall to left has remains of
old panelled plaster with pargetted infilling. Plaintiles except rear slope
of main range which is pantiled. 2 storeys. 3 first floor 8-paned sash
windows. Shop front with mid C20 windows and central doorway. To left, a
tripartite sash window with glazing bars and mid C20 panelled door. Small
stack against side wall of left wing. A C19 rear addition of flint with red
brick dressings. Interior. Plain studding exposed on upper floor except under
centre gable which is later infilling. Ground floor of main range has axial
bridging beam with shafted soffit; square or on-edge joists. Lintol of former
fireplace against main range, the stack now removed. C18-C19 stair in small
rear addition. Roof not examined. The area outside was butchers' stalls
known as The Shambles in a survey of 1621.
