Originally one house, now 2. C16 with C17 and later additions to rear.
Timber framed, rendered with pebbledash into which have been set fragments of
dark glass. Plastered surrounds to windows and doors, and plastered bands at
plinth, first floor and eaves. Pantiled roof. 3-cell form. 2 storeys.
Windows mainly late C19 4 and 6-paned sashes; a coupled pair to first floor
left (No.39). 2 ground floor windows to No.41 have paired louvred shutters.
No.39 has an older tripartite sash window with glazing bars. 2 doorways with
floating broken pediments: half-glazed 4-panel door to No.39, mid C20 6-panel
raised and fielded door and an overlight to No.41. Over doorway of No.41 is a
small oval panel with renewed date 1696. Internal stack with rendered shaft.
Rear wing cement-rendered and plaintiled; stack against the gable end.
Interior. No.39 has close studding exposed on upper floor. On the ground
floor, an early C17 plaster ceiling with a number of detached panels
containing Tudor rose, Fleur-de-lys and foliage motifs. This room has an
early C18 fireplace with eared surround. To rear is a good dog-leg stair of
c.1700 with wavy splat balusters, panelled square newels and a moulded ramped
handrail. Queen-post roof. Interior of No.41 not examined.
