- II

House, formerly the rectory. Dated 1846, by S.S. Teulon. Red brick with
white brick dressings and further embellishment in black-brick. Brick dentil
eaves cornice, brick copings to gables. Roof of mid C20 concrete pantiles,
originally plaintiled. 2 storeys and attic. Irregular form. Entrance front
(east), garden front (west) and south front each have a shaped gable with
integral stack. Plain gable to north. Various sash windows with slender
glazing bars; chamfered reveals. East and west fronts each have 2 tripartite
windows, those to ground floor within shallow square bays with hipped roofs.
Lean-to open porch with drop finials; semi-glazed door, probably the original
altered. Opposite doorway to west has 3-centre arched head; the door has 6
narrow panels, the upper 3 glazed. Above is a good 3-centre arched stair
window with Y tracery and a transom; decorative glazing with a pattern of
linked circles. South front has ground floor canted bay with French windows:
this is probably a slightly later addition. To north, a square turret with
pyramidal roof was for W.C.'s. Attic lit by mid C20 flush rooflights; there
was a gabled dormer to east. Contemporary lean-to and enclosed service yard
to north; gateway to east has piers with ball finials. Interior. Well stair
with 2 balusters per tread, each pair alternately twisted and turned. Plans
and specifications for the house are in the Parsonage House Papers (ref. FM1)
at the Suffolk Record Office.
