House. C16 with C17 alteration; renovated C20. Timber framed, panelled
roughcast render, plaintiled roof. 2 cells. 1½ storeys, small attic. C20
casement windows, those to ground floor metal-framed, with horizontal glazing
bars. One raking dormer. Lobby entrance with C20 semi-glazed door. Stack
has heavy axial shaft of narrow brick, with inset panel in base. C20 lean-to
addition on left gable end, extending forward and abutting the facade.
Interior. 4-bay frame with intact heavy studding visible on upper floor;
evidence for original diamond-mullioned windows. 2 tie beams have been cut
out. Original layout unclear. 2-bay room to right, originally unheated, has
plain ceiling joists set flat. Adjacent bay has slightly smaller lodged
joists, presumably a C17 insertion contemporary with the stack, which is set
between the 2 left hand bays. Wide lintol over blocked fireplace in main
room. Small cell to left of stack: lower ceiling has ogee stop-chamfered
floorbeam C17 plain upper ceiling. Newel stair adjacent to stack. Butt
purlin roof, most of the timbers concealed.
