No.14 (Holden Cottage) & No.16

Originally one house, now 2. C16 origins, largely rebuilt c.1600. Timber
framed and rendered, lined in imitation of ashlar. Roof slated to front and
pantiled to rear. 2 storeys and attic. Former jetty to street, now
underbuilt. 2 windows, mid C20 casements, those to No.16 with diamond-leaded
glass. Mid C20 reproduction-style battened plank doors. Stack to right at
junction with No.10 (qv. Item 7/50) has plain shaft of narrow brick. Heavy
stack against rear wall of No.16, the base within a later addition. Interior.
Intact studding in upper rooms with evidence for tripartite windows at front,
2 in No.16 with replacement ovolo mullions. Plain joists set flat, those in
upper ceilings re-used. No.16 has a good open fireplace with 4-centred brick
arch. Roof has stepped butt purlins.
