TM 16 SW 5/135
Moat Farmhouse

II

Former farmhouse. Mid C16 main range with early C17 cross-wing to left. Timber framed and rendered, plain tiled roof. 2 cells. 2 storeys and attic. Cross-wing has projecting gable, the wall-plate ends supported on solid brackets. Various windows, a mixture of casements and small-paned sashes. Over entrance is an ovolo-mullioned window of early C17. Lobby entrance: gabled porch with 6-panel raised and fielded door (upper 2 panels glazed). Internal stack with rendered shaft. Lean-to addition against side wall of wing. Interior. C16 work once extended to right, but no further to left as there is evidence for a gable window against the present stack. Most of the frame in this part is concealed. Roll-moulded ceiling beam in lower room, later upper ceiling with re-used roll-moulded beam. Wing has plain first floor studding with no visible bracing. In former outside wall within lean-to is the projecting moulded sill of a large upper window. On ground floor, an ovolo-moulded ceiling beam with nicked stops. Intact roof over wing has clasped and butt purlins, with wind bracing.
