Former farmhouse. Early C17. Timber-framed; rendered, with chequerwork
panels of C20 pargetting; plain tiles. Two storeys and attics; 3-cell lobby-
entrance form. The internal chimney-stack has three attached hexagonal shafts
with corbelled heads, set on a rectangular base. 3-light small-paned C20
casement windows, those on the upper floor smaller; gable-end windows to the
attics, that on the left original, of five lights with small diamond mullions;
above the C20 gabled and enclosed porch a 3-light original window with ovolo-
moulded mullions. To the right, a single-storey lean-to attached to the gable
end, with a wide fixed small-paned window, formerly contained a shop.
Interior with framing exposed: widely-spaced substantial studding; middle
rail; two open fireplaces with plain timber lintels; a rounded back to the
brickwork on the right. To each side of the stack the main beams are
chamfered with curved stop and jewel. Remains of service-end partition,
opened up, indicates position of two service doors, but the end bay has no signs
of a division. Joists in the three rooms vary: all are plain and set flat, but
are roughest, and possibly reused, in the service end, smallest in the centre
room, largest and best finished at the right end. From inside, it appears the
lobby-entrance is secondary, but there is no clear indication of a cross-
entry. Newel stair by stack; main posts with long jowls and arched braces
removed; original attics. Rafters C20 renewed; some wind braces and side
purlins remain.
