Public house. C16, with later extensions. Timber-framed; rendered, with
panels of roughcast; principally thatched, with some plaintiles; slates to a
later extension. 2 storeys; basic 3-cell internal chimney range with
projecting wings to left and right. A single-storey lean-to against the inner
side of the left wing, and a C20 flat-roofed porch extension sandwiched
between the 2 wings. The internal stack has a plain rectangular rebuilt shaft
set on a base of old red brick. Various windows: old casements with pintle
hinges and square leaded panes, 3-light or paired 2-light;. in the left wing, a
row of 3 small-paned sash windows in deep cased reveals. C20 half-glazed
door. On the side frontage, one large canted bay to the ground floor and
various 2-light and 3-light windows, all with square leaded casements. Main
range in 5 bays, including a chimney bay. Some good very closely-spaced
studding exposed on the former outer wall. To the left of the stack, a main
beam with ogee-moulding, and roll-moulding on the soffit; cambered fireplace
lintel with a triple roll-moulding. To the right of the stack, a 2-bay room
with exposed ceiling: double roll-moulding on main beam, ogee-moulding on
joists; open fireplace with a double roll-moulding to lintel. The partition
wall to the service end removed, and the beam boxed-in. In the end wall, the
slide and housings for 2 3-light diamond-mullioned windows.
