Parish church. Medieval, restored 1875 and 1924. Nave, chancel, west tower,
north porch. Flint rubble, the nave and chancel plastered; the tower is of
knapped flint with stone admixture; stone dressings. Slated roof with C20
slates to the south. C15 tower: square, with 3-stage diagonal buttresses to
the west and a crenellated parapet; the plinth, buttresses and parapet are
enriched with flushwork. The west face has a doorway with lion label stops to
the arch and a 2-light window below which is a full-width quatrefoil flushwork
frieze. 2-light bell-chamber openings. C12 nave with good original north and
south doorways. The north doorway has 2 orders of colonettes, the outer order
with spiral decoration, carved cushion capitals and 3 orders to the arch, 2
with chevrons and the central one roll-moulded. The south doorway is simpler:
one order of colonettes with chevron ornament and a roll-moulded arch. The
north and south nave each have 2 C15 2-light square-headed windows, largely
original. Good C15 porch of knapped flint with flushwork panels to the facade;
parapet with stone tracery at the front ana flushwork to the sides. The
entrance arch and hoodmoula are enriched with fleurons, and there are carved
stone shields in the spandrels; above the arch is an empty statue niche. Late
C13 chancel: 2 2-light windows with Y-tracery ana one lancet window; 3-light
east window with intersecting tracery. Priest's doorway to south. Interior.
No chancel arch. Ceiled-over roofs, probably C19. In the south sanctuary is
a late C13 angle piscina with trefoil arch and a drop-sill sedilia. Plain
octagonal font on a stem with 8 colonnettes, probably C13. In the north west
nave is a niche of a banner stave locker. Good C16 holy table. Set of C19
poppyhead benches.
