Description

BLYFORD SOUTHWOLD ROAD
TM 47 NW
6/4 Barn 40m. north east of
- Blyford Hall

- II

Tithe barn. Probably C17, with later addition at north end. Timber framed,
mainly weatherboarded but with some plasterwork; roof of corrugated iron
sheeting. An impressive building with a total length of nearly 40m. The
original structure has 10 bays, with gabled entrance porches facing east in
the third and eighth bays. Some of the trusses have intermediate posts, with
side ties to the main wall posts: these may be associated with original
internal partitioning. The wall framing has a middle rail but has been
considerably altered. Butt purlin roof, partly rebuilt, the more intact
section in the southern half where the original arched wind-bracing remains.
The 2 northernmost bays which are floored over are probably C19. The southern
end of the barn was only partly accessible at the time of survey.
