8/20 Corner Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C16 with mid C17 and C18 additions at the service end; restored
c.1974. Timber framed and plastered, the front wall cased or rebuilt in brick
(also plastered). Plaintiled roof. 2 storeys and attics. Originally 3 cell
form. 4 windows, C18-C19 3-light casements under segmental arches. Lobby
entrance with gabled porch and mid C20 plank door. Heavy internal stack. To
the left is an C18 colourwashed brick dairy addition. Modernised interior:
the hall and the original service area are now combined as one room and the
newel first floor stairs have been removed. Some new studding has been
introduced. All the joists are exposed on the ground floor, together with
much of the framing; the main floorbeams at the C17 end have complex stop-
chamfers. Less timbering is visible on the first floor.
