Sotherton Hall (formerly listed as Socherconhall Farmhouse)

Farmhouse. Late C16/early C17 with early C18 dairy wing set forward to the
left hand side, attached to the main range by a short link. Timber framed and
plastered. The roofs of the 2 ranges have plaintiles to the front and black
pantiles at the rear; the linking section has glazed black pantiles. 2
storeys and attic. 2 cell form. 3 windows, large-paned sashes in flush
frames; the left hand ground floor window has a surround with pilasters and
entablature. Lobby entrance with 6-panel door (the upper 2 panels glazed),
pilasters and entablature. Good internal stack, quite tall, with 4 flues
combined in sawtooth fashion and with projecting shaped bricks at the base.
The dairy wing has a shaped brick gable end (now plastered) with integral
stack. Gabled staircase wing to rear. There is a ground floor fireplace with
stone jambs and an arched wooden lintol, and an arched stone fireplace on the
first floor. The stairs have a section of C17 turned balustrading. Some
exposed studwork on the first floor.
