HENSTEAD WITH HULVER STREET
MARSH LANE
White House Farm Cottage

II

House. Left hand portion has late C16 or early C17 core; remainder
reconstructed probably late C18 to form a pair of farm cottages. Timber
framed core to earlier portion, otherwise red brick; thatched roof. 2 storeys
and attics. 2 windows, C18 3-light casements under flat brick arches; central
blank panel to ground floor. Boarded door to left, the corresponding doorway
to the right now bricked up. Central axial stack. Later single-storey
additions at both gable ends. On the ground floor the earlier core of the
house has exposed joists and a bridging beam with broach stop-chamfers with
bar; similar stop-chamfers appear on 2 rear wall posts and on the girding beam
abutting the stack. Some C17 framing is exposed in the rear wall but the roof
is of the later date.
