House, divided into 2. C16 and early C17. Part 1½ storeys, part 2 storeys
and attic. Timber-framed and rendered with thatched roof. An internal
chimney-stack with a plain shaft of partly old red brick; a later end stack on
the west. Various old 3-light casement windows; plank door. The lower part
of the building, to the west of the stack, is the oldest part, and seems to
have been longer originally; now 3½ bays. Very widely-spaced studs; assembly
marks to all main timbers; edge-halved scarf joints with long halvings to each
wallplate. In the middle bay a clamp supports the ends of a set of joists
different in texture and colour from the remainder; these may be a later
insertion. The middle truss had no tie-beam; the remaining tie-beams, which
had arched braces, have been cut. Considerable rearrangement of rafters.
Blocked original windows on upper floor. To the east of the stack, a typical
parlour addition, probably of the early C17.
