Inn. Mid C16. 2 storeys and attics; set sideways-on to the street; basic 2-
cell internal chimney plan. Timber-framed and rendered; clay pantiled roof.
The internal chimney stack has attached hexagonal shafts on a square moulded
base, with a recessed blank panel having brick modillions along the top. Cove
cornice. 2-light and 3-light old casement windows with a transome and
horizontal bars to lights. A plank door at each end of the front. Fine
interior. Both ground floor rooms have main beams with multiple roll-moulding
and run-off stops and one bay in the room to the west of the stack has exposed
joists with a double roll-moulding and run-off stops. Each room has an
unusual arched fireplace lintel with multiple roll-mouldings, on the west side
with carved Tudor roses also at the springings of the arch and in the centre.
The Huntsman and Hounds is already named as an inn in White's Directory of
Suffolk, 1844.
