Farmhouse, on a large rectangular moated site. Early and late C16. 2½-storey
main range; 2-storey rear wing: L-shaped. Timber-framed; fronted in late C19
red brick; rendered sides and rear wing. Plaintiles to main roof; pantiles to
rear. An internal chimney-stack with a plain rectangular red brick shaft.
Various C20 casement windows, mainly 2-light. Half-glazed door. The rear
wing, largely disused, is the oldest part of the building: 4 bays; framing
exposed inside; trusses with arched braces to the tie-beams; arched braces
halved against studs at the corners. 2 blocked 4-light windows on the upper
floor with diamond mullions in situ. Roof with one row of unstepped butt
purlins and one row of clasped, windbraces, and principal rafters unrelated to
the trusses below. The main range is in 5 bays, with a basic internal chimney
and cross-entry form, now altered to a lobby-entrance. The cross entry was
divided from the hall by an early C17 panelled screen, still surviving. Plain
exposed ceilings: beams and joists with chamfer and curved stops; the upper
ceilings are original. There are 2 rooms above the 2-bay
hall, with an
original dividing partition. Roof in 6 bays: one row of unstepped butt
purlins; cambered collars.
