House, formerly divided into 2. C15 and C16, with mid C19 front. 2 storeys.
Timber-framed; rendered on sides and rear; faced in mid C19 red brick, with
white brick quoins, window dressings, and band below the upper windows;clay
pantiles. One internal and one end chimney-stack, both with plain shafts of
small red bricks. 3 sash windows to ground floor with large wedge lintels,
deep reveals, and a single vertical bar to lights; 4 2-light casement windows
to upper floor. 2 plain 4-panelled doors, one with an open gabled timber
porch. Frame in 4 bays, with the present partition walls having little
relation to the structural divisions. At the west end, the remains of a fine
2-bay hall with crown-post roof: the shaft and base of the crown-post,
chamfered, with run-off stops, partly buried in later walls. The straight
tie-beam to the truss has a moulded soffit, and the long arched braces are
hollow-chamfered. One of the original cross-entry doorways with arched head
is blocked up in the rear wall. The ceiling inserted into the former hall
area is on a much higher level than the rest, and additional tie-beams have
been put in to support it at its junction with the service end partition.
The service bay itself has been completely remodelled, and a further early
C16 bay was added at the east end of the house, with plain, unchamfered, very
closely-set joists.
