A row of 4 cottages, originally one house. Late C16. Part 2 storeys, part-2
storeys and attic: a main range and a higher cross-wing. Timber-framed,
covered in C20 roughcast; clay pantiles. A very fine internal chimney-stack
has a set of 4-detached octagonal shafts, with moulded bases and incomplete
tops, on a high shaped base. C20 metal casement windows and plain doors. The
short cross-wing, no wider than the main range, is in 2 bays, with ovolo-
moulded main beam and cornice to the ground floor. Nos.2 and 3 have
modernised interiors, but No.4 has a main beam with large chamfer and pyramid
stops, and on the upper floor a 3-light diamond-mullioned window with mullions
in situ in what was the gable-end wall. Although spoilt by C20 alterations
the building was clearly an important one, and is listed for its restoration
potential. Nos.5 and 6, added in the C19 at the north end, are not included
in the listing.
