Gamekeeper's cottage of Somerleyton Hall Estate. Circa 1850. Roughcast
render on brick; applied timbering in geometric patterns to the upper floor
which projects slightly and is carried on wooden brackets. Hipped thatched
roof, the eaves raised over 3 of the first floor windows. Picturesque style.
L shape form. 2 storeys. Small-paned casement windows. The doorway is set
in the angle between the 2 wings: panelled entrance door and a lean-to porch
across the angle carried on 4 rustic timber posts. 2 red brick stacks set
against the outer wall of each wing. Part of the planned estate development
designed by John Thomas for Sir Morton Peto.
