House. C16, basic 2-cell end chimney plan, extended in early C17, mid C18 and
early C19: now T-shaped form. Part 2 storeys, part 2 storeys and attics.
Timber-framed and plastered, part faced in gault brick. Pantiled roofs.
Internal chimney stack to main range with 4 plain square attached shafts.
Principal (west) front has a slightly projecting gable at its north end:
rusticated plaster quoins and one tripartite sash window to each storey.
Remainder of front has early C19 small-paned sashes in flush frames, 2 gabled
dormers with small-paned casements to attics. Early C19 single-storey entrance
porch in the angle of the west and north walls: 2 small-paned sash windows,
door with segmental arched head to surround. To north and east of this range,
a court yard, which formerly contained outbuildings, surrounded on 3 sides by
early C19 red brick walls with wedge-shaped buttresses. On the east side, the
cross-wing has an eaves overhang supported on brackets, and below it a 5-light
oriel window with ovolo-moulded mullions and diamond-leaded panes. One late
C17 sash window to upper storey with heavy glazing bars, and another on the
north wall above the porch. Mid C18 garden (south) range, extended in early
C19. Faced in gault brick: plain plaster parapet, 4 ball finials. 5 bays:
1,2,3,2,1. Outer bays have single storey flat roofed bay windows with
tripartite and single small paned sashes: tripartite sashes to upper storey.
Remaining windows, small paned sashes in flush frames. Central doorway with
open triangular pediment and half-glazed door. Good internal features: carved
C16 fireplace lintel, heavy timbering: 2 floors laid with C18 limestone squares
and black 'dots'. Ornate early and later C18 fireplace surrounds, 2 with steel
duck's nest grates. Early C17, early and late C18 panelling, early C19
geometrical stair.
