4/79 Mulberry House

II

Former vicarage. Mid C16, modernised and extended in early C19. 2 storeys and
attics. Timber-framed and plastered, with traces of comb-patterned pargetting:
gault brick face to north gable. Pantiled roofs on 2 levels, the higher
section on right has finely pierced and carved early C19 bargeboards to each
gable. 4 windows: small-paned sashes in flush frames, those on right larger
and longer. Top right hand window has a painting on the glass of an C18 parson
in wig and bands by Rex Whistler, stationed briefly in Suffolk during the
1939-45 war. 6-panel door: raised fielded panels, and a narrow fixed window on
each side with diminished side lights. Good C16 timbering inside.
